Which Resale App Has the Cheapest Fees?

Depop is cheapest, then Mercari, then eBay, then Poshmark — that ranking holds at almost every price. What changes underneath it is how much the gap matters, and two structural rules about shipping that can close it entirely on bulky items.

Fee at every price point

Free shipping assumed, so this isolates the platform's own cost:

$500.00$16.95$50.00$68.40$100.00$83.05

The order never changes with price, but the stakes do. At $5 the spread is $2.33; at $500 it is $98.35. Fee choice barely matters on cheap items and matters enormously on expensive ones. Run your own price →

Effective rate, not headline rate

Headline percentages hide fixed fees. Here is what each platform actually takes as a share of the sale:

PriceDepopMercarieBayPoshmark
$5.0012.3%10.0%19.6%59.0%
$15.006.3%10.0%16.3%20.0%

$200.003.5%10.0%13.8%20.0%
$500.003.4%10.0%13.7%20.0%

Poshmark at $5 costs 59% — its flat $2.95 is the harshest fixed fee in resale. eBay drops from 19.6% at $5 to 13.7% at $500 as its per-order fee fades. Only Mercari is genuinely flat.

The shipping rule that reshuffles things

Poshmark excludes shipping from its fee base; the others do not. On heavy items that single rule cuts Poshmark's disadvantage dramatically:

Item + shippingMercariPoshmarkPoshmark premium
$50 + $0$5.00$10.00$5.00
$50 + $10$6.00$10.00$4.00
$40 + $15$5.50$8.00$2.50
$30 + $20$5.00$6.00$1.00
$25 + $25$5.00$5.00$0.00

At $25 with $25 shipping, Poshmark costs the same as Mercari. If you sell coats, boots, or anything bulky, the "Poshmark is twice as expensive" shorthand is simply not true.

What the fee gap is worth annually

Annual salesOn DepopOn MercariOn PoshmarkDepop vs Poshmark
$6,000$275$600$1200$926
$12,000$549$1200$2400$1851
$30,000$1373$3000$6000$4628
$60,000$2745$6000$12000$9255

Order counts assume roughly a $35 average sale. Free shipping assumed throughout.

At $30,000 a year, the gap between Depop and Poshmark is about $4,800. That is a meaningful sum — and also exactly the amount you would forfeit by listing on the cheaper platform if your items sell half as often there.

Cheapest is not always best

Every table above assumes the item sells on all four platforms at the same price and speed. For most inventory that is false, and the error dwarfs the fee difference:

$60 item, 60-day windowNet if soldSellsExpected value
Contemporary dress on Depop (cheap fee, wrong audience)$57.5725%$14.39
Contemporary dress on Poshmark (high fee, right audience)$48.0070%$33.60
Electronics on Poshmark (no audience at all)$48.005%$2.40
Electronics on Mercari (right audience)$54.0065%$35.10

Sell-through probabilities are illustrative, chosen to show the trade-off rather than measured rates.

Poshmark's 20% nets $33.60 on the dress against Depop's $14.44 — despite charging five times the fee. Choose the platform your buyers are on, then optimise fees within that choice.

The decision in one line each

  • Vintage, Y2K, streetwear → Depop. Cheapest fees and the right buyers.
  • Electronics, toys, general goods → Mercari. Low fee, broad categories.
  • Collectibles, niche, international → eBay. Higher fee, unmatched reach.
  • Contemporary women's fashion → Poshmark. Highest fee, fastest sell-through in its lane.
  • Bulky heavy items → Poshmark deserves a second look, since it is the only platform not charging on shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which resale app has the lowest fees in 2026?
Depop, for US sellers. It removed its 10% selling fee in July 2024, leaving only payment processing — roughly $2.10 on a $50 sale. Mercari is next at a flat 10%, then eBay at 13.6% plus a per-order fee, then Poshmark at 20%.
Is Poshmark really the most expensive?
On headline rate, yes. But Poshmark is the only one of the four that does not charge commission on buyer-paid shipping, so on heavy items the real gap against Mercari is much smaller than 10 points.
Which app is cheapest for items under $15?
Depop by a wide margin. Poshmark's flat $2.95 is 59% of a $5 sale, while Depop's processing on the same sale is around $0.62 and Mercari's is $0.50. Poshmark is by far the worst platform for cheap items sold individually.
Do fees alone tell you where to sell?
No, and this is the most common mistake. A 20% fee on an item that sells in a week beats a 4% fee on one that sits for six months. Match the platform to your inventory first, then use fees to break ties.
Which platforms charge fees on shipping?
Mercari and eBay both include buyer-paid shipping in the fee base. Depop's payment processing applies to the full transaction including shipping. Poshmark alone charges on the item price only.
Are these rates current for 2026?
Mercari, Poshmark, and eBay rates were verified against official sources in August 2026, and Depop's zero selling fee is confirmed by its own announcement. Depop's payment processing rate is the one figure Depop does not publish, so it is presented as an estimate throughout.
