Depop Fees Explained
Depop removed its 10% US selling fee on 15 July 2024, which makes it the cheapest major resale app on paper. The complication is that Depop does not publish its payment processing rate anywhere public — so any number you read for it, including ours, is an estimate rather than a confirmed figure.

What changed in July 2024
Depop removed its 10% selling fee for US sellers on 15 July 2024 and introduced a buyer-side marketplace fee instead. This is confirmed by Depop's own announcement, not inferred from seller reports.
| Sale price | Old 10% fee | Current selling fee | You save |
|---|---|---|---|
| $20.00 | $2.00 | $0.00 | $2.00 |
| $40.00 | $4.00 | $0.00 | $4.00 |
| $75.00 | $7.50 | $0.00 | $7.50 |
| $150.00 | $15.00 | $0.00 | $15.00 |

A great deal of resale content still quotes Depop at 10%. If you see that figure, check the article's date — it predates the change.
The honest caveat about payment processing
Not verified: Depop does not publish its payment processing rate on any public page, and its seller API documentation says only that a transaction fee applies. The 3.3% + $0.45 figure used throughout this page is what third-party trackers consistently report — it is an estimate, not a rate confirmed by Depop.
The practical answer is to read your own payout receipt. It shows the exact amount deducted from your sale, and our Depop fee calculator lets you enter that real rate rather than relying on ours.
What you keep at every price
| Sale price | Selling fee | Processing (est.) | You keep | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | $0.00 | $0.78 | $9.22 | 7.8% |
| $20.00 | $0.00 | $1.11 | $18.89 | 5.6% |
| $35.00 | $0.00 | $1.60 | $33.40 | 4.6% |
| $50.00 | $0.00 | $2.10 | $47.90 | 4.2% |
| $100.00 | $0.00 | $3.75 | $96.25 | 3.8% |
| $250.00 | $0.00 | $8.70 | $241.30 | 3.5% |
| $500.00 | $0.00 | $16.95 | $483.05 | 3.4% |
Processing figures are estimates as explained above. The fixed component makes the effective rate higher on cheap items — 7.8% at $10, falling to 3.4% at $500.
Even at the top of that range, Depop's effective rate is roughly a third of Mercari's and a fifth of Poshmark's. On fees alone it is not close.
Boosted Listings: the 12% question
Depop's optional Boosted Listings charge 12% when a boosted item sells. Since there is no base commission, boosting effectively recreates the fee structure Depop just removed:
| Sale price | Unboosted net | Boosted net | Cost of boosting | vs Mercari (10%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $25.00 | $23.73 | $20.73 | $3.00 | $1.77 worse |
| $50.00 | $47.90 | $41.90 | $6.00 | $3.10 worse |
| $100.00 | $96.25 | $84.25 | $12.00 | $5.75 worse |
| $200.00 | $192.95 | $168.95 | $24.00 | $11.05 worse |
Boosting costs more than selling the same item on Mercari at 10%. That is the test to apply: boost only if you believe the item genuinely would not have sold otherwise, since you are paying a Mercari-level fee for Depop-level exposure.
The buyer-side fee
Alongside removing the seller fee, Depop added a marketplace fee charged to buyers — capped at roughly 5% or $1.00 depending on the transaction.
It does not touch your payout. What it does affect is the total your buyer sees, which matters on Depop specifically because its audience is young and price-sensitive. If a listing is not converting despite good photos, the displayed total is worth checking against comparable listings elsewhere.
Full platform comparison
| Platform | Seller cost | On $50 | You keep | Audience |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Depop | Processing only (est.) | $2.10 | $47.90 | Gen-Z, vintage, streetwear |
| Mercari | Flat 10% | $5.00 | $45.00 | General used goods |
| eBay | 13.6% + $0.40 | $7.20 | $42.80 | Everything, largest reach |
| Poshmark | 20% at $15+ | $10.00 | $40.00 | Women's fashion |
Depop keeps $7.90 more than Poshmark on a $50 sale. Whether that is decisive depends entirely on whether your item suits Depop's audience — a 20% fee on a sale beats a 4% fee on a listing nobody buys. Compare with your own numbers →
