Poshmark Fees Explained
Poshmark has the highest headline commission of any major resale app. The structure is simple — a flat fee below $15, 20% at or above it — but the effective rate swings from 59% to 20% depending on where you price, and that swing is what decides whether an item is worth listing at all.

The two-tier structure
Poshmark charges sellers exactly one fee, and which version you pay depends on a single threshold:
The same $2.95 whether the item sold for $4 or $14.99. Effective rate falls as price rises.
A straight percentage with no cap. A $500 sale costs $100 in commission.
That is the whole seller-side cost. Unlike Etsy or Shopify, there is no separate payment processing line — Poshmark's commission already absorbs it. There is also no listing fee, so an unsold closet costs you nothing but the time to photograph it.
What you keep at every price
The effective rate column is the one worth studying. It is not a flat 20% — it starts near 60% on cheap items, bottoms out right below the threshold, then locks at 20%.
| Sale price | Poshmark fee | You keep | Effective rate | Which tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $5.00 | $2.95 | $2.05 | 59.0% | Flat $2.95 |
| $10.00 | $2.95 | $7.05 | 29.5% | Flat $2.95 |
| $14.99 | $2.95 | $12.04 | 19.7% | Flat $2.95 |
| $15.00 | $3.00 | $12.00 | 20.0% | 20% commission |
| $20.00 | $4.00 | $16.00 | 20.0% | 20% commission |
| $35.00 | $7.00 | $28.00 | 20.0% | 20% commission |
| $50.00 | $10.00 | $40.00 | 20.0% | 20% commission |
| $100.00 | $20.00 | $80.00 | 20.0% | 20% commission |
| $250.00 | $50.00 | $200.00 | 20.0% | 20% commission |
| $500.00 | $100.00 | $400.00 | 20.0% | 20% commission |

The $15 threshold trap
There is a narrow band just above $15 where raising your price actually reduces your payout. Crossing the threshold swaps a $2.95 fee for a $3.00 one, and it takes a few cents of price increase before you have made that back.
| List price | Fee | You keep | vs pricing at $14.99 |
|---|---|---|---|
| $14.99 | $2.95 | $12.04 | $0.00 — break even |
| $15.00 | $3.00 | $12.00 | −$0.04 — you lose money |
| $15.02 | $3.00 | $12.02 | −$0.02 — you lose money |
| $15.05 | $3.01 | $12.04 | +$0.00 |
| $15.25 | $3.05 | $12.20 | +$0.16 |
| $16.00 | $3.20 | $12.80 | +$0.76 |
The practical rule: if an item is realistically worth $15 to $15.04, list it at $14.99. Above roughly $15.05 the threshold stops mattering and you should price on what the item is actually worth.
Why cheap listings rarely pay
The flat fee is what makes low-priced Poshmark listings hard to justify. Once you subtract the fee and what you paid for the item, a $6 listing can leave less than a dollar — before you have counted the time to photograph, list, and package it.
| Sale price | Fee | Item cost | Profit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $6.00 | $2.95 | $3.00 | $0.05 | 1% |
| $10.00 | $2.95 | $3.00 | $4.05 | 41% |
| $15.00 | $3.00 | $3.00 | $9.00 | 60% |
| $25.00 | $5.00 | $5.00 | $15.00 | 60% |
| $45.00 | $9.00 | $8.00 | $28.00 | 62% |
Item cost assumes typical thrift or wholesale sourcing. Your own numbers will differ — the point is the shape of the curve, not these specific values.
This is why experienced Poshmark sellers bundle. Selling three $8 items as one $24 bundle pays a single $4.80 commission instead of three $2.95 fees totalling $8.85 — and ships in one box. Work out bundle pricing →
What Poshmark does not charge for
- Listing:free and unlimited, with no expiry or renewal fee — unlike Etsy's $0.20 per listing every four months.
- Shipping: the buyer pays a flat prepaid-label rate directly. Your commission is calculated on the item price alone.
- Payment processing: no separate percentage. The commission is all-in.
- Payouts: direct deposit and check are free. There is no monthly subscription tier to buy.
The one optional cost is Posh Ads, a promoted-listing product you opt into per item. It is billed separately from commission, so treat it as a marketing line rather than a platform fee.
How the 20% compares
Poshmark's headline rate is the highest of the major resale apps. On a $50 sale with free shipping:
| Platform | Seller fee | Fee on $50 | You keep | Fee on shipping? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Depop | No selling fee — processing only | $2.10 | $47.90 | Yes (processing) |
| Mercari | Flat 10% | $5.00 | $45.00 | Yes |
| eBay | 13.6% + $0.40 per order | $7.20 | $42.80 | Yes |
| Poshmark | 20% at $15 and above | $10.00 | $40.00 | No |
Depop figure uses the widely reported 3.3% + $0.45 processing estimate — Depop does not publish this rate publicly, so treat it as approximate.
The fee gap is real but it is not the whole decision. Poshmark charges nothing on shipping, where Mercari and eBay both do, which narrows the gap on heavier items. More importantly, a 20% fee on an item that sells beats a 10% fee on one that sits unsold for six months. Compare all four platforms with your own numbers →
Pricing around the fee
If you know the profit you want, work backwards from it rather than guessing at a markup. Above $15 the maths is straightforward — divide your target payout by 0.8:
List price = (item cost + target profit) ÷ 0.80
Example: item cost $12, target profit $18 → ($12 + $18) ÷ 0.80 = $37.50. Poshmark takes $7.50, you receive $30.00, and $18.00 of that is profit.
Below $15 the flat fee replaces the divisor: add $2.95 to your cost plus target profit and list at that number. Just check whether the result lands in the dead zone above $15 — if it does, either drop to $14.99 or push it to $15.05 and up.
