Why the ranking changes with price

Poshmark's flat $2.95 fee is 59% of a $5 sale but only 20%at $14.99, so cheap items are punished hardest. eBay's fixed per-order fee works the same way. Depop looks cheapest at most price points because it charges no selling fee at all — but its buyers pay a marketplace fee at checkout, which can affect how well your item sells.

Depop, by a clear margin for US sellers — it removed its 10% selling fee in July 2024, leaving only payment processing. Mercari is next at a flat 10%. eBay charges 13.6% for most categories plus a per-order fee, and Poshmark charges 20% on sales of $15 and up. Fees are not the whole story though: the platform with the cheapest fees is worthless if your item does not sell there.
Which platform pays the most for a $20 item?
Depop, then Mercari, then eBay, then Poshmark — assuming free shipping and no boosts. On a $20 item Poshmark takes $4.00 (20%) while Mercari takes $2.00 and Depop takes well under a dollar. Run your exact numbers above, since adding buyer-paid shipping changes the ranking on platforms that charge fees on shipping.
Why does the cheapest platform change depending on price?
Because fixed fees dominate at low prices and percentage fees dominate at high ones. Poshmark's flat $2.95 is 59% of a $5 sale but only 19.7% at $14.99. eBay's per-order fee works the same way. Above $15, Poshmark's 20% becomes the most expensive option in percentage terms and stays that way as price rises.
Do these platforms charge fees on shipping?
Mercari and eBay both include buyer-paid shipping in the fee base, so charging shipping increases the fee you pay. Poshmark does not — buyers pay a flat shipping rate directly, and it never touches your commission. Depop's processing fee applies to the whole transaction including shipping. This is why the comparison above asks for shipping separately.
Is it worth listing the same item on multiple platforms?
Many resellers do exactly this, delisting elsewhere once an item sells. It increases the chance of a sale considerably, at the cost of having to manage inventory across apps. If you cross-list, price for the platform's fee structure rather than using one price everywhere — a price that leaves a good margin on Depop can leave almost nothing on Poshmark.
