US Etsy Payments · Does not include Offsite Ads fee · Listing fee = $0.20 per unit sold

Etsy's three fees per sale explained

1. Transaction fee: 6.5%

Etsy's primary fee — 6.5% of the total order amount including any shipping you charge. This is Etsy's revenue for connecting you with buyers and providing the marketplace. It replaced the old 5% transaction fee in 2022.

2. Payment processing fee: 3% + $0.25 (US)

Etsy Payments processes the credit card, PayPal, or Apple Pay transaction on your behalf. The US rate is 3% of the order total plus $0.25 fixed fee. International rates vary (UK: 4% + £0.20, AU: 3% + A$0.25).

3. Listing fee: $0.20

$0.20 charged when you first list an item, then automatically renewed every 4 months (if not sold) or when the listing sells. For most sellers, the listing fee is a minor cost — it's only 1% of a $20 sale, but becomes relatively larger on smaller items.

The optional 4th fee: Offsite Ads (15% or 12%)

If Etsy promotes your listing on Google, Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest and a buyer clicks and purchases within 30 days, Etsy charges an additional Offsite Ads fee:

  • 15% if your lifetime Etsy revenue is under $10,000
  • 12% if your lifetime Etsy revenue is over $10,000 (mandatory at this level)
  • Below $10,000 lifetime revenue, you can opt out in your Etsy Shop settings

When Offsite Ads applies, total Etsy fees reach 21–24.5% of the sale price — significantly higher than the standard 9.5–10%.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Etsy take from a $25 sale?
From a $25 sale to a US buyer, Etsy takes approximately $2.62 in fees: transaction fee 6.5% = $1.625, payment processing 3% + $0.25 = $1.00. Plus $0.20 listing fee (charged when the listing sells). Total: ~$2.82. You receive ~$22.18 before your product and shipping costs.
How much does Etsy take from a $50 sale?
From a $50 sale to a US buyer: transaction fee 6.5% = $3.25, payment processing 3% + $0.25 = $1.75. Plus $0.20 listing fee. Total Etsy fees = ~$5.20. You receive ~$44.80 before your product and shipping costs. This is approximately 10.4% of the sale price.
What percentage does Etsy take from each sale?
For US sellers, Etsy's effective fee rate is approximately 9.5–10.5% of the sale price, depending on the price (the $0.25 fixed payment fee and $0.20 listing fee matter more at lower prices). On a $10 sale, Etsy takes about 12.5%. On a $50 sale, about 10.4%. On a $100 sale, about 9.95%. The percentage decreases as sale price increases because the fixed fees become a smaller proportion.
Does Etsy take fees on the shipping amount I charge?
Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee and 3% payment processing fee both apply to the total amount the buyer pays — including any shipping you charge. If you charge $8 shipping on a $22 item, Etsy calculates fees on the full $30. This is why free shipping with the cost rolled into the item price is financially equivalent — the fee base is the same either way.
What does Etsy take from digital products?
For digital downloads on Etsy, you pay the same fee structure: 6.5% transaction fee + 3% + $0.25 payment processing + $0.20 listing renewal per sale. No shipping charges. On a $4.99 digital file: transaction fee $0.324 + payment processing $0.40 + listing $0.20 = $0.924 in fees. You keep $4.07 (81.5% of sale price). Digital products have the best net margin on Etsy because there's no product or shipping cost.
