Etsy's three fees per sale explained
1. Transaction fee: 6.5%
Etsy's primary fee — 6.5% of the total order amount including any shipping you charge. This is Etsy's revenue for connecting you with buyers and providing the marketplace. It replaced the old 5% transaction fee in 2022.
2. Payment processing fee: 3% + $0.25 (US)
Etsy Payments processes the credit card, PayPal, or Apple Pay transaction on your behalf. The US rate is 3% of the order total plus $0.25 fixed fee. International rates vary (UK: 4% + £0.20, AU: 3% + A$0.25).
3. Listing fee: $0.20
$0.20 charged when you first list an item, then automatically renewed every 4 months (if not sold) or when the listing sells. For most sellers, the listing fee is a minor cost — it's only 1% of a $20 sale, but becomes relatively larger on smaller items.
The optional 4th fee: Offsite Ads (15% or 12%)
If Etsy promotes your listing on Google, Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest and a buyer clicks and purchases within 30 days, Etsy charges an additional Offsite Ads fee:
- 15% if your lifetime Etsy revenue is under $10,000
- 12% if your lifetime Etsy revenue is over $10,000 (mandatory at this level)
- Below $10,000 lifetime revenue, you can opt out in your Etsy Shop settings
When Offsite Ads applies, total Etsy fees reach 21–24.5% of the sale price — significantly higher than the standard 9.5–10%.
