Etsy fee formulas (2025)

Transaction fee: (Item price + Shipping charged) × 6.5%
Payment processing (US): (Item price + Shipping charged) × 3% + $0.25
Listing fee: $0.20 × listings published / sold / renewed
Offsite Ads (if enrolled): (Item price + Shipping charged) × 15% (or 12% high volume)
Total Etsy fees: Transaction fee + Payment fee + Listing fee + Offsite Ads
Net revenue: Total buyer payment − Total Etsy fees

Assumptions:

  • Transaction fee applies to item price + shipping charged (not your actual postage cost)
  • Listing fee: $0.20 per renewal. Multi-quantity: only when all stock sells out
  • Payment processing rates differ by country — US rate shown above
  • Offsite Ads: 15% for <$10k/yr sellers (opt-out available); 12% for $10k+ (mandatory)
  • VAT/GST collected from buyers by Etsy on your behalf — not deducted from your payout
  • Currency conversion fee (2.5%) applies if listing currency ≠ deposit currency

Etsy payment processing fees by country (2025)

Payment processing fees vary by the seller's country. The 6.5% transaction fee is the same worldwide — only the payment processing component differs:

Worked example: every Etsy fee on a real sale

US seller, $29.99 handmade item, $5.99 shipping charged, no Offsite Ads, no Etsy Plus:

Buyer pays: item price$29.99
Buyer pays: shipping$5.99
Total buyer payment$35.98
Transaction fee (6.5% × $35.98)−$2.34
Payment processing (3% × $35.98 + $0.25)−$1.33
Listing fee (per sale)−$0.20
Net revenue (before your costs)$32.11

Total Etsy fees on this sale: $3.87 (10.75% of buyer payment). Your actual profit depends on product cost, postage, and packaging.

Same sale with Offsite Ads (15%)

Net revenue (from above)$32.11
Offsite Ads fee (15% × $35.98)−$5.40
Net revenue after Offsite Ads$26.71

Total fees with Offsite Ads: $9.27 (25.8% of buyer payment). If your product costs $10 and shipping costs $5, profit drops to $11.71.

No Offsite Ads, no shipping charged to buyer (free shipping). Fee % decreases on higher-value items because the $0.25 fixed payment fee becomes proportionally smaller. Digital downloads at $4.99 are disproportionately expensive.

How to reduce Etsy fees

  • Use multi-quantity listings. Pay $0.20 once when all stock sells out instead of $0.20 per individual sale. A listing selling 20 units pays $0.20 total vs $4.00 in per-sale renewal fees.
  • Opt out of Offsite Ads if eligible. Under $10k/year? Go to Shop Manager → Settings → Offsite Ads → Turn off. Saves 15% on every ad-driven sale.
  • Price higher to absorb the fixed payment fee. The $0.25 fixed payment fee is 5% of a $5 item but only 0.25% of a $100 item. Bundling or pricing up reduces the per-sale cost significantly.
  • List in your Etsy Payments deposit currency. Avoid the 2.5% currency conversion fee by listing in the same currency as your payout account.
  • Skip Etsy Plus if you don't run ads.The $10/month plan includes $5 in ad credits and 15 listing credits ($3 value) — net cost is $2/month if you only use the listing credits, or $5 if you use credits but don't run ads.

Want lower fees? Consider your own Shopify store

Shopify charges 2% + $0.30 (Basic plan, Shopify Payments) — no transaction fee, no 6.5% cut. For sellers at $3,000+/month, the math often favors running a Shopify store alongside Etsy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Etsy transaction fee in 2025?
Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee on the total amount received from the buyer — item price plus any shipping you charge. This rate has been 6.5% since April 11, 2022 (previously 5%). It applies globally to all Etsy sellers regardless of country.
Does the Etsy transaction fee apply to shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to both the item price and the shipping amount you charge the buyer. It does NOT apply to your actual postage cost — only to what you charge the buyer. Example: you charge $5.99 shipping but pay $3.50 for the label; Etsy takes 6.5% of the $5.99.
What are Etsy's payment processing fees by country?
US: 3% + $0.25 per transaction. UK: 4% + £0.20. Canada: 3% + $0.25 CAD. Australia: 3% + $0.25 AUD. Eurozone (Germany, France, etc.): 4% + €0.30. Other countries may have different rates — check your Etsy seller dashboard.
What is the Etsy listing fee?
Etsy charges $0.20 USD each time you publish a listing, when it auto-renews every 4 months, or when a single-quantity item sells and renews. For multi-quantity listings, the $0.20 only triggers when all stock is depleted — not per individual sale.
Can I avoid the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?
If your Etsy shop has made less than $10,000 USD in the past 365 days, you can opt out: Shop Manager → Settings → Offsite Ads → Turn off. If you've exceeded $10,000, Offsite Ads enrollment is mandatory and the fee drops to 12% (from 15%).
What is the total fee percentage Etsy takes?
For a US seller using Etsy Payments, with no Offsite Ads: approximately 9.5–10.5% of the total buyer payment, plus the $0.20 listing fee. With Offsite Ads at 15%: total platform fees reach 24–26% of the sale. With 12% Offsite Ads: 21–23%. The exact percentage shrinks slightly on higher-value sales because the $0.25 fixed payment fee becomes proportionally smaller.
