US Etsy fees: 6.5% transaction and 3% + $0.25 processing on item + shipping, $0.20 listing fee per print sold. Target-margin prices assume a one-print order without Offsite Ads.
Print time is the real cost driver
Filament for most desk-sized prints costs a dollar or two. What makes a print expensive is the hours it occupies the printer and the share that fails. A 10% failure rate means every good print also pays for a tenth of a failed one, which is why the calculator divides machine and material cost by your success rate.
Worked example with the default inputs
| Line | Normal sale | Offsite Ads sale (15%) |
|---|---|---|
| Buyer pays ($24.00 + $0.00 shipping) | $24.00 | $24.00 |
| Etsy fees | −$2.73 | −$6.33 |
| Cost per print | −$7.21 | −$7.21 |
| Postage + packaging | −$6.30 | −$6.30 |
| Profit (margin) | $7.76 (32.4%) | $4.16 (17.4%) |
For a 40% margin on a one-print order with these costs, the price would need to be about $27.63. The defaults are illustrative; replace them with your own supplier prices and timed production.
Check the slicer, not a guess
Take grams and print time from your slicer for the exact model, infill and supports you use, and add your printer's rated power from its spec sheet. Machine wear covers nozzles, build plates and repairs: divide what you spent on them last year by the hours you printed.
