TikTok Shop referral fee
The referral fee is TikTok Shop's primary seller fee — a percentage of the total sale amount (item price + any shipping charged). It's similar to Etsy's transaction fee or Amazon's referral fee.
For most general merchandise categories, the referral fee is 8%. Electronics are lower at 5%, books/media at 4%. Verify your specific category rate in TikTok Seller Center under Settings → Fee Rates.
Payment processing fee (~3%)
TikTok Shop does not publicly disclose its payment processing rate, but sellers typically see approximately 3% deducted from payouts. This covers credit card processing, fraud prevention, and payment infrastructure.
Unlike Etsy (3% + $0.25 fixed) or Shopify ($0.30 fixed), TikTok Shop's payment fee appears to be percentage-only with no fixed component — though this is not officially confirmed.
Affiliate commission (optional, you set the rate)
Affiliate commission is not a TikTok platform fee — it's an amount you choose to offer creators and affiliates who promote your products. It's a marketing cost, not a mandatory platform charge.
- You set the commission rate in Seller Center (typically 5–20%)
- Paid only when a creator drives a sale via their affiliate link
- Functions as pay-per-sale advertising — unlike CPC ads, you only pay on conversion
- High commissions attract more creators; lower commissions protect margin
Calculating your actual TikTok Shop profit
Total fees on a TikTok Shop sale = referral% + payment% + affiliate% (if using affiliates).
Example: $35 product, general category, 10% affiliate commission
