Price per mug for a target margin
US Etsy fees: 6.5% transaction and 3% + $0.25 processing on item + shipping, $0.20 listing fee per mug sold. Target-margin prices assume a one-mug order without Offsite Ads.
Postage, not the blank, decides mug margins
A sublimation blank costs a few dollars, but a padded mug box ships at a heavier rate than most Etsy items. If you offer free shipping, the postage you pay is built into your price. Enter your real label cost for your usual service and zone.
Worked example with the default inputs
| Line | Normal sale | Offsite Ads sale (15%) |
|---|---|---|
| Buyer pays ($20.00 + $0.00 shipping) | $20.00 | $20.00 |
| Etsy fees | −$2.35 | −$5.35 |
| Cost per mug | −$6.65 | −$6.65 |
| Postage + packaging | −$7.50 | −$7.50 |
| Profit (margin) | $3.50 (17.5%) | $0.50 (2.5%) |
For a 40% margin on a one-mug order with these costs, the price would need to be about $28.92. The defaults are illustrative; replace them with your own supplier prices and timed production.
Account for breakage honestly
Every mug that breaks in transit usually means a free replacement: a second mug, a second box and a second label. The breakage field spreads that cost across all the mugs that arrive safely. Track your real rate for a few months and update it.
