Frequently Asked Questions
When does Etsy charge a currency conversion fee?
Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee when your listing currency is different from your payment account deposit currency. For example, a US seller listing in GBP or a UK seller listing in USD will pay the 2.5% fee on each sale.
How do I avoid Etsy's 2.5% currency conversion fee?
List in your home currency — the same currency as your bank account linked to Etsy Payments. If you're a US seller, list in USD. If you're a UK seller, list in GBP. You can still sell internationally without conversion fees; buyers simply see your price converted in their own currency display.
Is Etsy's currency conversion fee on top of other fees?
Yes. The 2.5% currency conversion fee stacks on top of the 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee. For a US seller listing in GBP: total fees could be 6.5% + 3% + $0.25 + 2.5% = 12% + fixed — significantly more than domestic sales.
