1. FBA fulfillment fee

Charged per unit for Amazon to pick, pack, and ship an order once it sells. The fee scales with size and weight tier — bigger and heavier items cost more to fulfill. Here's the simplified estimate used across Marginory's Amazon calculators:

2. Inbound placement service fee

A newer per-unit fee for sending a shipment to a single fulfillment center instead of letting Amazon distribute it across several. Choosing the distributed placement option during shipment creation can reduce or eliminate it, at the cost of splitting your shipment into more, smaller boxes. Check the actual inbound placement quote for your shipment; this guide does not validate a universal rate.

3. Monthly storage fee

Billed per cubic foot of space your inventory occupies in an Amazon fulfillment center, charged monthly based on your average daily volume that month. Two seasonal rates apply:

Amazon doesn't publish it anywhere a non-seller can access. The real fee schedule lives in Seller Central and depends on precise dimensional weight (length × width × height, not just actual weight), which only gets calculated once you've created a listing. Any site claiming to give you Amazon's exact current fee without you being logged into Seller Central is estimating, whether they say so or not — we'd rather say so.

What is dimensional weight and why does it matter for FBA fees?

Dimensional weight approximates how much space a package takes up rather than how heavy it actually is — a large, light box (like a lampshade) can cost more to ship than a small, heavy one (like a paperweight) because it occupies more truck and shelf space. Amazon uses the greater of actual weight or dimensional weight to assign your fulfillment fee tier.

What is the inbound placement service fee?

A per-unit fee Amazon introduced for sending inventory to a single fulfillment center rather than letting Amazon split it across multiple centers (which used to be free). You can typically reduce or avoid it by choosing the multi-location "Amazon-optimized" placement option during shipment creation, at the cost of more complex logistics on your end. How much higher is Q4 storage really?

Historically, several times higher than the standard rate — inventory sitting in FBA during October–December has consistently cost more per cubic foot than the rest of the year, reflecting the holiday space crunch. The exact multiple shifts from year to year, so budget conservatively and check Seller Central before committing to large Q4 inventory pushes.

How do I avoid overpaying in storage fees?

Compare replenishment costs with storage and inventory-age exposure. Review Amazon's inventory-age report and the applicable aged-inventory schedule for your SKU; the first charged tier and exclusions vary. Decide on replenishment, markdown or removal using actual sell-through and costs.
